In the first book of the series, On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness, Janner, Tink, and Leeli Igiby found out that they were not just ordinary children, but the Lost Jewels of Anniera. They are forced to flee from the Fangs of Dang, fierce some snake-like soldiers.

North! Or Be Eaten continues the tale. The Igibys flee north with their mother and Podo, their grandfather, and their uncle because the Fangs cannot handle the cold climate in the north. To reach the Ice Prairies, they encounter the monsters of Glipwood Forest, the Stranders of the East Bend, and Janner must escape from the Fork Factory. The book’s subtitle summarizes beautifully what you should expect while reading the book: “Wild escapes. A desperate journey. And the ghastly Fangs of Dang.”
